Our Story
A mother, a daughter, and a whole lot of books.
Welcome to Next Chapter Books, an independent, family-run bookstore in the heart of Leduc, Alberta.
Books have always been part of our family. They’ve been passed across kitchen tables, stacked in every available corner, gifted for every occasion, and followed by plenty of “Okay, but you HAVE to read this next.”
Somewhere along the way, we started dreaming about what it would be like to create a bookstore of our own — one that felt less like a shop and more like walking into a place where you already belonged.
That dream became Next Chapter Books.
What started with the two of us hunting for books, talking late into the night, and dreaming much bigger than we probably realized has grown into a bookstore filled with new and pre-loved books, local makers and authors, community events, book clubs, coffee, and some pretty incredible readers.
Our motto is cozy reads, big feelings, real connection — and that’s exactly what we want you to feel when you walk through our doors.
Meet the Owners
💙 Bree
Co-Owner | The Behind-the-Scenes One
If you’ve found us online, there’s a pretty good chance Bree had something to do with it.
She’s the one behind the website, social media, ordering, events, vendor relationships, and many of the ideas that somehow turn into “Okay, I guess we’re doing this now.”
Her shelves lean heavily toward romance, dark romance, and thrillers and she firmly believes fictional men have set entirely reasonable expectations.
When she isn’t at the bookstore, she’s usually reading, spending time with her husband and son, or thinking about the bookstore anyway.
💛 Tara
Co-Owner | The Heart of the Shop
If you’ve visited Next Chapter Books, chances are you’ve met Tara.
She’s the friendly face behind the counter, the person who remembers what you were reading last time, and the one who can turn a quick bookstore visit into a conversation between friends.
Tara brings the warmth to Next Chapter Books and has helped create the welcoming, comfortable atmosphere we wanted from the very beginning.
She loves connecting with customers, helping someone discover their next read, and making sure everyone who walks through our doors feels like they have a place here.
More Than a Bookstore
Next Chapter Books is very much a family affair.
Behind the scenes, there are family members moving boxes, building shelves, working spreadsheets, watching kids, helping at events, and stepping in wherever they’re needed.
And then there’s our incredible staff, local authors and makers, and the customers who have supported us, recommended us to friends, attended our events, joined our book clubs, and continued to choose a small local bookstore.
You’ve helped turn an idea between a mother and daughter into something very real.
